North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho, now in NY for a United Nations meeting, warned Thursday that the North could conduct a test of a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific.
"It would also send a disturbing signal to the USA and the global community that North Korea had now "arrived" as a full-fledged nuclear weapon state". "By doing so, however, he committed an irreversible mistake of making our rockets" visit to the entire US mainland inevitable all the more". Those threats have been met by harsh United Nations sanctions, and Trump this week rolled out a new set of rules aimed at penalizing individuals and entities that do business with North Korea.
"Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime", Trump said. Analysts say the North is likely to soon achieve its objective of possessing nuclear missiles capable of reaching any part of the USA homeland.
"Chinese government authorities will issue a notice based on the export situation when approaching the upper limit, and from that date implement a prohibition on exports of refined oil products to North Korea for the year", it said. Early Saturday morning, the U.S. Air Force's most powerful conventional bombers ripped past the Korean Peninsula to demonstrate American resolve.
North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho's remarks before the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday came hours after US Air Force B-1B Lancer bombers escorted by fighter jets flew in worldwide airspace over waters east of North Korea, in a show of force the Pentagon said demonstrated the range of military options available to Trump.
Ri's highly anticipated speech to the General Assembly's annual ministerial meeting fueled the fiery rhetoric between the USA president and North Korea's young leader.
A secondary tremor detected after that test could have been caused by the collapse of a tunnel at the mountainous site, experts said at the time. He said in a telephone interview that the North likely would do a couple of trial runs with unarmed missiles in coming months before performing the test with an actual H-bomb aboard.
All six of North Korea's nuclear tests thus far, dating to 2006, have been conducted in underground tunnels.
Resuming peace talks was just as much a part of the United Nations resolutions as enforcing sanctions, Wang said, according to a statement issued by China's Foreign Ministry late on Friday.
"We are prepared to use the full range of military capabilities to defend the USA homeland and our allies".
The remarks of the US President evoked sharp reaction from Jong-un.
Repeating a regular North Korean view, Ri argued that the country is developing nuclear weapons and missiles in response to the threat from the U.S. He referred to his country's weapons as the "nuclear hammer of justice", calling the country's arsenal "a righteous self-defense measure".
"DPRK is a responsible nuclear weapons state", he explained.
Pyongyang conducted its sixth and largest nuclear test on September 3 and has threatened to test a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific.
