The 1.5 update for Skyrim Special Edition is now available in beta for Steam users, but won't make its way to consoles until sometime October, so players will have to be a bit patient before they get their hands on it.
When it launches, it will be free for one week on all platforms - PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
For now, the mode is freely available in beta form to PC players.
It'll probably be worth checking out if you're still wandering around Skyrim, but it's a shame that it's being lumped in with the Creation Club, which has already gone down like a lead balloon with just about everyone.
Creation Club launched for Fallout 4 last month alongside a stack of curated mini-DLCs. Owners of Skyrim and its DLC on Steam, or its Legendary Edition, were upgraded to the remastered version for free past year.
Some of the new gameplay features that Survival Mode adds are hunger, fatigue and temperature effects.
Adding to the survival nature, the mode also has body heat management, a lowered carry weight, disabled health regeneration, diseases, and other changes that ramp up the difficulty of the game.
Survival mode is now in beta via Steam, and will come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One early next month. Health also will no longer regenerate over time, it can only be replenished by spells, food or potions.
