Seymour On Pro Football Hall of Fame Ballot

New York Giants' Steve Smith is chased by Houston Texans' Kareem Jackson in the fourth quarter of an NFL football game Sunday Oct. 10 2010 in Houston

Of the 108 players and coaches announced as nominees Tuesday, 18 will be picked as finalists, who will be put up for a vote by the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee the day before Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis.

Nominees for induction must have played their last game at least five years ago.

Cornelius Bennett, linebacker, Buffalo Bills 1987-1995, Atlanta Falcons 1996-1998, Indianapolis Colts 1999-2000: Bennett entered the National Football League as the second selection of the 1996 draft. He spent most of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles, but gave the Broncos three great seasons before hanging up his cleats following the 2011 season. The Baltimore Ravens initially signed him as a free agent that April, but waived him less than two months later. Former General Manager Jim Finks is also in the Hall. He was also the starting center on the Colts' championship team in Super Bowl XLI.

James, the fourth overall pick in the 1999 draft, is the Colts' career leader with 9,226 rushing yards.

Three players with Alabama football roots - offensive tackle Willie Anderson, linebacker Cornelius Bennett and wide receiver Terrell Owens - are among the 108 Modern Era players nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2018.

A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, Bennett would go to win two AFC Defensive Player of the Year awards and played in five Super Bowls.

Defensive linemen: La'Roi Glover (DT/NT), Leonard Marshall (DE/DT), Keith Millard (DT/NT/DE), Leslie O'Neal (DE), Michael Dean Perry (DT/DE), Simeon Rice (DE), Richard Seymour (DT), Neil Smith (DE), Greg Townsend (DE/NT/LB), Kyle Vanden Bosch (DE), Bryant Young (DT). He started 92 of 94 games with the Colts before finishing his career in Atlanta and Minnesota.

Like Hinton, Bennett has also been selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame's preliminary ballot several years running.

The current list will be further pared to 25 semifinalists in November by the selection committee - we are a member - and to 15 finalists in January.

Between four and eight of those finalists will be inducted into the hall of fame next August. The Class of 2018 will be determined February 3 in Minneapolis, the day before Super Bowl LII.

Defensive backs: CB Eric Allen, S Steve Atwater, CB/S Ronde Barber, S LeRoy Butler, S Brian Dawkins, S Rodney Harrison, CB Ty Law, CB Albert Lewis, S John Lynch, S Dennis Smith, CB Everson Walls, S Darren Woodson. The finalists will consist of 15 Modern-Era finalists, the recently named Senior Finalists, Robert Brazile and Jerry Kramer, and the Contributor Finalist, Bobby Beathard. The selection process bylaws provide that four to eight inductees will be selected.
