Rutgers vs. Nebraska: Who has the edge?

Washington Rutgers Football

"It's probably the toughest weekend in the conference playing Minnesota and Wisconsin", coach John Cook said on his postmatch radio interview. "We're just out trying to get better".

Through three games, Grant leads Rutgers in receiving yards (112) and all-purpose yards (286), while tying for the team lead with 12 receptions.

"There are football games and then there are football games that you play traditionally", Dantonio said.

"Well obviously it was really good to win". Since joining the Big Ten, the road has been unkind to the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers' 10 first-half points were the product of a sharp opening drive and a field goal that came from Lee's first-half interception. After struggling with his punt returns all season, Pierson-El finally broke loose with a 63-yard runback to the RU four-yard line.

Nebraska's running game was considerably more efficient than Rutgers in the first half, gaining five yards per carry, while Rutgers averaged three yards per carry. Running back Devine Ozigbo, who had been a no-show in NU's offense all year, led the way with a career-high 24 carries for a game-high 101 yards.

Coach James Franklin and Penn State will be traveling to Iowa for the first time since the head coach arrived in 2014.

"I think she's played a lot of matches at a high level, and I think she's still working her way back", Cook said.

Lewis rushed for a school quarterback-record four touchdowns and was the first Rutgers player to run for four scores since Ray Rice in 2008.

It was Bob Diaco's defense that stole the show, holding the Scarlet Knights to 194 total yards, the fewest of any Nebraska opponent since Riley came to Lincoln. Offensive lineman Jerald Foster said he was proud to be a part of the offense on the drive. Lee was 7 for 9 for 81 yards before getting knocked out of the game on a sack in the second quarter.

With the game in its infancy and still tied at 0-0, Rutgers quarterback Kyle Bolin looked into the flats for his tight end.

The already depleted offensive line will be even thinner for the Rutgers game, as back up right tackle Matt Farniok, the Sioux Falls native, won't start after breaking his wrist.

On special teams, Nebraska had a 55-yard punt from Caleb Lightbourn and a 50-yard kickoff return from JD Spielman, but also had a Drew Brown 37-yard field goal blocked right before halftime.

Riley said he never considered taking Lee out and putting in Patrick O'Brien after the pick-six.

By showcasing its depth against a program that has a single Big Ten victory at the start of its fourth season in the conference, NU punched the clock with a 25-15, 25-20, 25-11 win and moved on to bigger challenges.

Nebraska will return to action next week for a Friday night showdown at IL, which is set to kickoff at 7 p.m. and will be televised nationally on FS1. It's only fun, I've found, when you win.
