Retro fever: Nintendo boosts Super NES Classic production, revives NES Classic

Nintendo Announces Plans to Increase SNES Classic Production and Bring Back the NES Classic Mini

Nintendo of America announced Tuesday that the NES Classic, its widly popular, miniaturized version of its 1980s gaming console, is going back into production and will re-appear on store shelves in 2018.

Nintendo company officials confirm they are bringing back the NES Classic Edition console that was discontinued earlier this year. As of now, no specific dates of availability have been announced by the company yet. Nintendo said that it sold 2.3 million units of the NES Class Edition, further confusing customers as to why the company was pulling the plug on such a successful product. Oh, and the NES Classic Mini will be making a return in 2018 too. "Even with that extraordinary level of performance, we understand that people are frustrated about not being able to find the system, and for that we really do apologize", he told Time. This includes familiar titles like "Super Mario", "Donkey Kong", "Metroid", "Mega Man", "Pac-Man", and "The Legend of Zelda".

Smash cut to today, and an announcement for Nintendo that is the news equivalent of a rainbow filled sky on a sunny day.

The good news is that if you miss out on the first rounds of shipments at the end of this month - or struggle to get one in the proceeding months - you can foreseeable get the "new" retro console next year.

Nintendo's announcement in April of the NES Classic Edition discontinuation was a surprising one, considering that the retro console had massive trouble staying on store shelves due to intense demand. There will also be more units of the SNES Classic Edition on its September 29 launch date in the United States compared to the number of NES Classic Edition consoles that were shipped during its release.
