President Ram Nath Kovind today said he wanted every citizen of the country to become a nation- builder by adopting the Gandhian concept of "trusteeship". Kovind's statement came after Gujarat Chief minister Vijay Rupani said that Kovind preferred Gujarat on his first state visit.
Kovind offered his floral tributes at Gandhiji's statue inside the Ashram, which is managed by the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust. Trust Chairperson Elaben Bhatt, along with trustees Kartikeya Sarabhai and Amrut Modi, accompanied Kovind during his tour of the Ashram, which is celebrating 100 years of its establishment.
"Non-violence is the core essence of Indian culture and it was a political tool for Mahatma Gandhi during freedom struggle".
From the airport, the president went straight to the Sabarmati Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi lived between 1917 and 1930.
Kovind further said that he took a conscious decision that he would first dedicate his first visit to jawans being the chief of the three armed forces.
