North Korean leader Kim called Trump a what? A 'dotard'

Earlier this month, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin warned China, North Korea's main ally and trading partner, that if it did not follow through on new United Nations sanctions on Pyongyang, Washington would "put additional sanctions on them and prevent them from accessing the US and worldwide dollar system".

Elleman said the missile of choice in a North Korean atmospheric H-bomb test likely would be its longest-range ballistic missile, known as the Hwasong-14, which apparently has the capability of reaching the USA mainland, or the intermediate-range Hwasong-12.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson admitted Friday the escalating tensions between Washington and Pyongyang were challenging, but he said the increasingly harsh rhetoric and threats of military action would not negate diplomatic efforts.

The U.S. President kicked off this recent round of insult exchanges when he referred to Kim as a "Rocket Man" on a "suicide mission", during his speech at the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday.

Such a test would be a "game-changer" if North Korea actually did it, the official said.

A senior US diplomat says a North Korean hydrogen bomb test in the Pacific would be an "unprecedented act of aggression" by the communist nation. The last atmospheric nuclear weapons test was in October of 1980, conducted by China.

Yesterday, North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un, responded with a lengthy statement.

It was Trump's most direct military threat to attack North Korea and his latest expression of concern about Pyongyang's repeated launching of ballistic missiles over Japan and underground nuclear tests.

Kim's statement was a unique escalation itself, marking the first time Kim or his predecessors had addressed the world directly, according to Seoul's Unification Ministry, which is responsible for North-South relations.

Trump's overheated language was rare for a USA president at the rostrum of the United Nations, but the speech was textbook Trump, dividing the globe into friends and foes and taking unflinching aim at America's enemies.

The White House, meanwhile, took the another step in its so-called "peaceful pressure" campaign to rein in Pyongyang's nuclear program, expanding sanctions on North Korea and those who do business with the country. "This is an intolerable prospect that no other country in the global community can abide".

It could also draw the USA into taking preventive military action.

If you're wondering how Kim Jong-Un was able to pull out a word very few Americans know for his speech, a reporter from the Associated Press says that during her time in North Korea, she saw many government officials using old Korean-to-English dictionaries.

Trump asserted that North Korea's reckless pursuit of nuclear weapons threatens entire world with enormous loss of human life.

Prices seemed unaffected by the rhetoric going back and forth between the US and North Korea.

"North Korea's remarks and behavior are provocative to regional and global security, and they are absolutely unacceptable", said Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshihide Suga.
