North Korea to respond to Washington over new sanctions

China urges UNSC members to help denuclearize Korean peninsula

As a neighbor of the Korean Peninsula, China has been closely following the development of the situation there, Geng said.

M - Kazakhstan welcomed the new resolution of the UN Security Council on North Korea unanimously adopted by all Security Council member states, including Kazakhstan, on September 11 in response to the 6th and the most powerful nuclear test of Sept.3, the Kazakh foreign ministry said.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) was "ready to use a form of ultimate means", Mr Han said without elaborating. "The U.S. should be fully aware that as long as it persists with intense political, economic and military confrontation with the DPRK in defiance of its repeated stern warning, the former will never be able to avoid its permanent extinction". "The forthcoming measures by DPRK will make the USA suffer the greatest pain it ever experienced in its history".

Geng said the resolution reflected the unanimous stance of Security Council members in safeguarding peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, advancing denuclearization on the peninsula and upholding worldwide non-proliferation.

The U.S.is also seeking to ban all countries from hiring workers from North Korea and from importing textiles from the northeast Asian nation - two key sources of foreign currency. China supplies most of North Korea's crude.

Meanwhile, the previously circulated version of the United States resolution called for a full ban on exports to North Korea. One of the considerations is that the latest draft removes a call for a full oil embargo on the country.

Russian Federation argues that sanctions aren't working and President Vladimir Putin expressed concern last week that a total oil cutoff could hurt the North Korean people.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said the resolution aimed to hit "North Korea's ability to fuel and fund its weapons program".

Geng also said China firmly opposes the deployment of the U.S. anti-missile Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system in South Korea. This is the rogue state following its sixth and largest nuclear test that happened over a week ago.

The latest resolution contained new political language urging "further work to reduce tensions so as to advance the prospects for a comprehensive settlement".
