Mississippi State easily handles Louisiana Tech 57-21

It got crazy after a botched snap at Louisiana Tech’s own six

That was the situation Louisiana Tech found itself in after a weird play early in the third quarter of an eventual 57-21 loss at home to Mississippi State on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech faced a third down and 93 yards to go during its game against Mississippi State on Saturday night.

This will be the 13th meeting between the two programs, but just the second time Louisiana Tech has hosted Mississippi State in Ruston. Louisiana Tech coach Skip Holtz was impressed: "It was as dominating of a defensive performance as I have ever seen in college football". He had a 19-yard run and finished the game with nine carries for 62 yards. The Buccaneers' offense gained just 33 yards in the loss, while Mississippi State accumulated 555 yards of total offense. Mississippi State defensive back Maurice Smitherman tried to land on it but couldn't. About five different Mississippi State players had the chance to recover the fumble, but Tech wideout Cee Jay Powell ended up being the man to recover the fumble.

Boston Scott rushed for 96 yards and Jarred Craft added 81 yards on the ground for Tech. J'Mar Smith completed 10 of 23 passes for 140 yards and an interception.

Louisiana Tech: A great start faded quickly for Louisiana Tech, which couldn't regain the momentum once it was lost on Saturday night. The Bulldogs struggled to throw the ball after some early success and once they became one-dimensional the Mississippi State defense was dominant.

Opponent notwithstanding, Mississippi State put on a clinic in its season opener.

TOUGH STRETCH: Louisiana Tech is playing two teams from the Southeastern Conference in a three-week span.
