Mazda CX-9 Still Leaves Drivers Blind

Spied-gen Mazda 3 mule testing Skyactiv-X engine

As nice as it was to know that Mazda was going to give the Mazda CX-9 a major upgrade for 2018, fans were still unhappy that Mazda chooses to ignore the one tech that they were hoping would be offered on the 2018 model.

Good news awaits consumers visiting Mazda dealerships in search of a small SUV that's affordable and fun to drive: the Mazda CX-3 has just been spruced up with its first true update and offers an upgraded list of equipment.

Stepping up to the CX-9 Grand Touring model will cost $41,410 and adds 20-inch wheels, Adaptive Front-lighting System, aluminum interior trim, Active Driving Display head-up unit with new Traffic Sign Recognition, roof rails, and a memory driver's seat. Smart City Brake Support automatically applies the brakes in emergency situations less than 19 miles per hour. In addition, Blind Sport Monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are now standard on the three-row crossover. The CX-9 is the latest vehicle to receive Mazda G-Vectoring technology, created to make the driving experience more enjoyable and less stressful by reducing minuscule steering wheel movements.

Besides the newly standard safety technology and refinements, CX-9 Sport features cloth upholstery, standard LED headlights and tail lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, an electronic parking brake, MAZDA CONNECTTM infotainment with a 7-inch screen and Bluetooth audio streaming and phone pairing as standard.

The mid-level CX-9 Touring adds leather seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with built-in Homelink garage door opener, power liftgate, Advanced Keyless Entry and an 8-inch screen. The CX-9 Sport Package also features full-speed Mazda Radar Cruise Control.

All models use a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The Touring trim has added for the new model year tilting driver's seat and powered passenger seat with lift and lumbar support. The optional Touring Premium package brings more goodies including LED foglights, navigation, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, front and rear parking sensors, second-row sunshades, and a sunroof. All-new features on the CX-9 Grand Touring include heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, and windshield wiper de-icer.

The top-of-the-line CX-9 Signature comes standard with Auburn-colored Nappa leather, rosewood trim, a LED signature grille and LED interior lighting.

Price change: Sport model is $610 higher, Touring $1,010 cheaper; base prices are unchanged on the Grand Touring and Signature, and the destination charge is unchanged at $940.
