Manchester City thrash Liverpool after Sadio Mane red card

Ederson of Manchester City is stretchered off during the Premier League match between Manchester City and Liverpool at Etihad Stadium

Many would argue that the August player of the month was simply trying to win the ball, but Moss, and now it seems Neville, have disagreed with what appears to be the popular decision.

However, the main talking point of the match came in the 37th minute when Mane was controversially given a red card after catching Ederson in the face with his boot when challenging for a through-ball on the edge of the penalty area.

City hit the front in the 24th minute when Sergio Aguero rounded Reds goalkeeper Simon Mignolet having latched on to De Bruyne's perfectly weighted throughball.

"I don't think they'd have won with 11 men, the way City were playing it would have been a tough afternoon for them, but you've got to be anxious about how Liverpool defend".

Former Manchester City midfielder Barton admitted that he was surprised to see Klavan named in the Liverpool starting line-up considering Lovren had started their previous three fixtures.

"With the strikers we have, there is no doubt we will score goals", he said. You want to go for the ball.

The goalkeeper was substituted in place of Claudio Bravo but returned to the bench after assessment.

They weren't able to keep City out for long though as Benjamin Mendy's low cross found Leroy Sane who beautifully finished to extend his side's lead to 4 - 0 with 13 minutes remaining.

The Liverpool legend said on LFC TV: "If you're going to win the league or have a successful season, two away games in the league so far and you've conceded eight, you're not going to do it like that".

The Liverpool player's sending off was "not intentional", according to City boss Pep Guardiola.

The Brazilian was caught by a studs up challenge from Liverpool winger Sadio Mane during the 5-0 victory. "I don't know if it was a red card".

"We play so high that the 'keeper has to play around the 60-yard mark to help us defend a little bit".

The impressive Kevin de Bruyne provided Aguero's opener and also picked out the unmarked Jesus to head in City's second in added time after Ederson's injury.

Maybe this latest picture of Ederson, three days after the high tackle went down, will change his mind.
