Liverpool can show their improvement since Europa final loss - Jurgen Klopp

Coach Jürgen Klopp made it clear that Philippe Coutinho, who was recovering from a back injury and illness is "fit and healthy" for the Liverpool's first Champions League group game of the season.

The 25-year-old's return was delayed due to a back injury that cleared up in time for him to feature for the Brazil national team in the recent global break but he did not play a part in Liverpool's heavy defeat to Manchester City at the weekend.

After a two-year hiatus, Liverpool return to Champions League action on Wednesday night.

In early team news Liverpool can not call on Nathaniel Clyne or Adam Lallana, while Danny Ings and Philippe Coutinho are minor doubts.

- Sadio Mane will serve the full three-match ban for his dismissal against Manchester City, the Football Association confirmed on Tuesday.

The £36.9million summer signing was sent home by the club's medical staff after reporting to Melwood yesterday.

Mane will not play another Premier League game until October, but that may work in Coutinho's favour as he looks to win a place back into the hearts of Liverpool supporters.

"I count on players in my squad that are very fearless, very honest".

"Phil is a fantastic player, and hopefully we can use him as quickly as possible".

Despite losing 5-0 at the weekend, Liverpool are a different animal at Anfield, especially on big European nights.

"He was in and the doctor told me he can train, but what would be best for him is if he doesn't have to".

The centre of the field will clearly be crucial in determining the shape of the game, and Liverpool must prevent Sevilla's key player Steven N'Zonzi - a man who knows Anfield well following his time with Stoke - from exerting his usual powerful influence.

Liverpool reached two finals in Klopp's first seven months as manager, losing on penalties to Manchester City in the League Cup at Wembley, and suffering a more decisive 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the Europa League in Basel. They missed out on a trophy as well as automatic Champions League qualification.

"Of course we can't neglect the performance after that - we have to keep it in mind - but we have another game midweek when we can prove ourselves again".
