Live from the Apollo, Bruno Mars lands his first TV special

Bruno Mars will star in a CBS special from the Apollo Theater

Bruno Mars: 24k Magic Live At The Apollo will air Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 10pm ET on CBS.

While Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez, has played before a large TV audience in the past, Variety reports this will be his first-ever solo television special. The concert was filmed at the Apollo Theater in New York City and Bruno kicks off the show by performing on the iconic theater's marquee.

Bruno Mars has scored his first prime-time television special.

Mars is expected to continue filming during the next few weeks. "He burns the roof off the Apollo while paying respect to its tradition and history".

Mars shares executive producer credits with Ben Winston for the special, which also features Mars' band, the Hooligans, in various sequences created for the show.

Mars is no stranger to primetime television, having performed at a pair of Super Bowl halftime shows. The album and its lead single, "24K Magic", simultaneously hit No. 1 on the iTunes Overall Albums and Overall Songs charts during its week of release.

Bruno has often channeled Apollo legends during his stage performances, including James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr. and Michael Jackson.
