Lexi Thompson shoots 63 to take LPGA Tour lead in Indy

Lydia Ko

"I knew my game was in a good spot even though I did not play my best last week in Portland but knew if I worked on it on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday I knew I would have a good chance", said Thompson describing her thoughts on her chances as she entered this week. We're always usually paired with each other, at least one round a week.

Thompson closed with a 4-under 68 for a four-stroke victory.

Aditi Ashok bowed out of the Indy Women in Tech Championship after missing the cut, following a roller-coaster second round.

Thompson is looking for her ninth LPGA title, her second this season.

Not only would this victory be Thompson's second win of 2017 she has also recorded five runner-up finishes and today was another example of the quality of golf she has been playing.

"It's just nice to be able to play some good golf, no matter what position I finish in". "That's what I've kind of been lacking the last few months".

Winless in more than a year, the 20-year-old Ko had five straight birdies in the middle of her final nine before bogeying the par-4 eighth. Unless I hit 100 percent fairways and 100 percent greens, there's always room for improvement.

And after winning the 17 mile race, promptly poured milk on her head for some reason.

Actually, there's a very good freason for Lexi to throw milk all over herself: Since 1956, every victor of the Indianapolis 500 has taken a swig of ice-cold milk in Victory Lane, one of the most venerated traditions in sports. "With how the course has played the last couple of days somebody could shoot a really low number but at the same time if it's windy tomorrow it can really play tough too", Ko said.

"You sometimes have those mistakes and you just need to move on from that". If you don't hit a good shot, and you start thinking, 'Hey, what's going on?' And switch off, and just let it swing freely.

Making her first visit to Indianapolis, Ko has enjoyed the design of Brickyard Crossing, with Indianapolis Motor Speedway serving as the backdrop. She averaged 300 yards per drive on Friday, which is a staggering 76 more than Ko. It is a hard golf course there (in France) and it is a mentally draining week there but this is a real confidence boost.
