In January 2005, Anshul had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking a CBI inquiry in the case of killing of his father.
As Ram Rahim Singh was "a very influential figure", the judge said "he must be sentenced appropriately to send a deterring message for potential offenders".
The case took a murkier turn when Dera member Ranjit Singh was murdered on 10 July 2002. He received a jail uniform and was allotted a cell in jail, the Times of Indiareported.
However, the CBI judge Jagdeep Singh had rejected all of those contentions saying, "Any statement of rape is an extremely humiliating experience for a woman and until she is a victim of sex crime she would not blame anyone but the real culprit".
The CBI court in 2008 had ordered framing of charges of rape against Gurmeet Ram Rahim and the trial began, which ended on Monday with the pronouncement of qunatum of punishment in the case. The prosecution wanted the case to be treated as "rarest of the rare".
The flamboyant Dera leader, who prefers bicep-baring T-shirts and takes on gangsters and aliens in his Messenger of God series of films, was in tears and pleaded with folded hands for mercy as the Judge read out the verdict. The defence sought leniency on the ground that Ram Rahim had done a lot of social work.
Ram Rahim was immediately medically examined by doctors and found to be fine. The judge arrived at the jail premises in a chopper from Chandigarh.
A curfew was imposed in Rohtak and in Sirsa town, where the guru's Dera Sacha Sauda sect has a sprawling ashram.
Police and para-military forces are on stand-by to ensure there is no repeat of the violence that followed his conviction.
"We are fully prepared for any situation".
"We acted with restraint. Some dera followers are still present inside the sect headquarters", V Umashamkar, Commissioner, told media. The curfew will continue on Monday. Besides being the first BJP CM in Haryana, Mr Khattar is also a non-Jat CM ruling a Jat-dominated state.
An Indian court has sentenced Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, a guru whose rape conviction sparked deadly clashes last week, to 10 years in prison.
Then on 23 October 2002, journalist Ram Chander Chattrapati - the editor of Poora Sach, a local daily from Sirsa - was shot dead.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh appealed to people to accept the court verdict.
