Honda to Electrify Two-Thirds of European New Car Models by 2025

Honda Volkswagen Showcase EV Concepts At 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show

The car's wheels will likely be toned down for production, however.

Showcasing the concept at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany, the auto was credited with delivering an unlikely star of event, with its 1970s and 1980s-inspired Urban EV city vehicle.

The Urban EV has low and wide proportions and is 100m shorter than the Jazz supermini, making it 3895mm long.

Honda did not have many details to offer at the event but based on what the vehicle is going to be when it arrives, most people believe that if the production model arrives, it will only be offered in Europe and not in the US.

Inside, a "floating" dashboard with a wrap-around display grabs your attention.

Inside, the concept has room for four occupants across two bench seats and Honda has applied wood finishes throughout.

"Here in Europe, we see this move towards electrification gathering pace at an even higher rate than elsewhere", said Honda President and CEO, Takahiro Hachigo, during the 2017 IAA presentation.

Honda has confirmed that electrified technology will now feature in every new vehicle model launched in Europe. It's part of the company's "Electric Vision" strategy, which is a fancy way of saying that Honda - like the rest of the automotive world - knows that gas is on its way out, and wants to have a reliable, affordable electric platform on which to continue to build its fleet of highly sought after cars.

Look for Honda to reveal a global target date for when all vehicles will carry electric options in the near future.

Philip Ross, senior VP for Honda Europe, said: "When appropriate, Power Manager can draw on energy from the EV battery to power the home and minimise the demand from the main grid". Plans are to start testing in France with a rollout by 2020.
