Georgia cruises to 42-14 win over Samford as SEC play beckons

"I mean it helped", head coach Kirby Smart said. "I know they were exhausted of hitting our backs and exhausted of being out there for so long". It was Hardman's first touchdown since switching from a defensive back to receiver. The Bulldogs rushed for 284 yards, led by senior Nick Chubb, who led all rushers with 16 carries for 131 yards and two touchdowns, scoring on runs of 31 and 14 yards. Georgia was then able to jump out to 21 unanswered points in the second half en route to victory. Samford tacked on an 18-yard touchdown pass with 13:49 to go from Devlin Hodges to Kelvin McKnight.

There was no Notre Dame hangover.

The lopsided win probably won't register much nationally given the talent disparity between the programs but as the Bulldogs learned last September it isn't guaranteed a blowout for the $500,000 payout it gave to the Southern Conference school from near Birmingham.

Although the Bulldogs' play was sloppy at times, the outcome was never in question as Fromm completed 8 of his 13 throws with two of his three scores going to junior Terry Godwin, who led all receivers with four catches for 98 yards. He got his first home start and second replacing Jacob Eason, who remains out with a sprained left knee.

The early three-and-outs served to be particularly damaging to the Samford defense because of the nature of its offense. "In the second half, we made a stop, got a turnover, the young quarterback showed he's growing up and we cashed in". The two-play drive consisted of a 47-yard completion to Riley Ridley, followed by a 32-yard touchdown run from Chubb.

Georgia's defense held and forced a Samford field goal try. John Atkins recovered a fumble off a bad snap.

Chubb had one of the best games in recent memory getting into the end zone twice during the Bulldogs' victory. He went up the middle and cut back and hit the open field down the left side for the score. From start of the game, Georgia got to work on putting this game away.
