Here's what we know about a story: it's set in a small town on Halloween, as David S. Pumpkins and his skeleton dancers "show a young boy and his sister the true meaning of Halloween, answering none of their questions along the way". And now, he's back, with his very own animated special, and a few special guests to boot.
"Pumpkins Halloween Special" is based on the wildly successful "Haunted Elevator" sketch from the October 22, 2016 "SNL" telecast that featured nine-time host Tom Hanks as mystery man David S. Pumpkins, on an elevator wearing a pumpkin suit and surrounded by two skeleton dancers - Mikey Day and Bobby Moynihan.
Now the NBC network has ordered a Halloween-themed animated half-hour special, with Hanks again voicing the role.
The joke was pretty one-note the first time Hanks attempted it - and yet simultaneously also strangely hypnotic - so we can't wait to see just how grating it becomes over 30 minutes!
Hanks will lend his voice talents to the special, and will also appear onscreen at the beginning.
And how could this special get any better? Peter Dinklage is set to co-star. "He thought it was very freaky and was like, 'Hey, I think Chris Hemsworth [the following week's host] would make a great David Pumpkins.' But now he is very happy with it". If you haven't seen it, it's a slow start for sure, but definitely worth watching. If we're lucky, this could be a new holiday tradition!
