Dashcam footage shows aftermath of fiery Kalamazoo Township crash that killed 5

The crash that killed five people happened shortly before 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, near the intersection of Sprinkle Road and East Main Street in Kalamazoo Township.

Strick Strickland is pastor of the Second Baptist Church and leader of the Kalamazoo area NAACP office. Police say the vehicle crashed into a tree and was quickly fully engulfed in fire.

The names and identities of the five victims have not yet been confirmed.

He called the deadly crash "extremely tragic" and hard to comprehend.

MI police say five people are dead following a fiery, high-speed crash in Kalamazoo Township.

It happened after a Kalamazoo Township police officer spotted a auto going about 100 miles per hour in the 200 block of East Main Street, police said.

It could be days or even weeks before the victims of a fiery crash are formally identified, authorities said.

Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas says he can't speculate on the victims' ages or genders because the scene is so "gruesome".

After calling the speeding vehicle into dispatch, the officer made a decision to follow the route the Dodge took, concerned they would crash and discovered the burning wreck a few minutes later, just over the line in Comstock Township.

He spotted the crashed, burning auto along a roadside shortly afterward.
