Croatia back on top of Group I after beating Kosovo

Croatia during their contest against Kosovo

Domagoj Vida scored Croatia's victor as they beat Kosovo 1-0 in World Cup qualifying, with the game resuming on Sunday following its suspension on Saturday due to heavy rain.

After Saturday's interruption of the match, intense communication between the FIFA representatives and two federations followed and a meeting was scheduled for Sunday morning at 9 a.m.

"Of course, we didn't have good preparation for the match".

The match was suspended after 22 minutes of play on Saturday following a downpour that left the Maksimir Stadium pitch unplayable.

Even though Croatia beat Kosovo convincingly in Skhoder a year ago, this string of events made the task for the Croats much more hard and the opposition from the visitors was much stronger than in their first qualifying encounter.

Luka Modric claimed Federation Internationale de Football Association "showed they don't care about players" after Croatia beat Kosovo 1-0 in World Cup qualifying, in a fixture played over two days.

Croatia now leads the group with 16 points, two ahead of Ukraine. If they did care, they would have postponed the Turkey - Croatia game to Wednesday. Iceland is third on 13 points and Turkey has 11.

The abandonment means that Croatia, temporarily at least, lose top spot in Group I of European qualifying.

On October 6, Croatia will host Finland in Osijek. It is clear that in this match Croatia will win against Kosovo and qualifies for the World Cup 2018.
