Chris Coleman trumps England by giving Wales call-up to David Brooks

Wales boss Chris Coleman has welcomed Antonio Conte's comments about Ethan Ampadu

Coleman insists that Brooks has "earned his chance" in the senior squad and is happy to potentially make use of him against Georgia and Republic of Ireland in October.

Chelsea manager Conte said earlier this month the Premier League champions were "proud" of Ampadu being selected by Wales, and rejected the notion that an global call placed extra pressure on someone so young.

That is in contrast to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who initially showed some reservation about 17-year old Liverpool winger Woodburn's selection.

Klopp, however, later christened his teenage striker "The Prince of Wales" after Woodburn scored a World Cup victor less than five minutes after coming on as a substitute against Austria.

After convincing Chester-born Ben Woodburn to continue his worldwide career with Wales, and being rewarded with a debut goal from the Liverpool youngster, Chris Coleman has now set his sights on more players with roots across the border.

England then went on to win the competition, with Brook picking up the Best Player award.

Would you rather play with Gareth Bale or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?

'But if you have played it you understand the importance of it and the honour of it.

"I wasn't surprised by Antonio's comments, of course they were welcome and it made total sense to me".

Conte said Chelsea were'proud of the 17-year-old's call up to Coleman's international squad

"I think in our U16s, something like 60% of the players have the possibility of playing for another country, because they have dual-nationality".

"But I don't feel obliged to cap anybody unless it suits the first team".

Woodburn has only had 45 minutes of first-team action for Liverpool since becoming a national hero, but Coleman believes he is being handled the right way at Anfield. If I need to put a player on the pitch because we need to change it tactically or injury, we will play someone.

"Commitment is what it is, they're either in for the long run or not at all".

'All the signs for us with Ben were good, and certainly in his first few caps. But it is a feather in the cap for our system, our structure, that David is here.

'There will be an expectation that he plays more of a part now, ' he said. It's not like he's come to meet me here for the first time, we have met before.

Ampadu and Brooks could both follow in the footsteps of England-born Ben Woodburn in making their Wales debuts in this qualification campaign.

Brooks, who was born in Warrington, withdrew from Wales' Toulon Tournament squad this summer in order to represent England.

"I'm sure it will cause one or two ripples on the other side of the Bridge".
