China: UN should take 'necessary measures' on North Korea

U.S. overestimates China in the North Korean field

Among the U.S. options to strengthen its deterrent is the long-planned modernisation of America's ageing nuclear forces that would assure that North Korea would be destroyed if it fired a nuclear-tipped missile at the United States, a USA military base, Japan, or South Korea.

Wang also said, "Any new actions taken by the worldwide community against the DPRK [Democratic People's Republic of Korea] should serve the objective of curbing the DPRK's nuclear and missile programs, while at the same time be conducive to restarting dialogue and consultation". Dennis Rodman, who has also paid several visits to Kim Jong Un, says the two talk about everything but politics during Rodman's trips to North Korea.

Nonetheless, North Korea's celebrations on Saturday were generally peaceful, despite South Korean worries that it would use the opportunity to test another bomb.

The U.S., China and Russian Federation can't seem to agree on how to deal with North Korea's latest saber-rattling.

The Republican president said the US military "has never been stronger", but that "hopefully" Washington will not have to use it against Pyongyang.

President Donald Trump has spoken with the leaders of Britain and Australia about North Korea's latest nuclear test.

The US is also circulating a draft United Nations resolution that would impose new trade curbs.

A draft resolution calls on United Nations member states to impose an oil embargo on North Korea as a way of compelling it to change behavior following its latest provocation.

North Korea celebrated its founding day on Saturday with calls from state media for a buildup of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, just as the United States is pushing for a new round of global sanctions on the regime.

But North Korea's leader appeared deaf to the worldwide outrage and hailed the "perfect success in the test of H-bomb" at a dinner to congratulate the scientists and technicians behind the nuclear programme, the official Korean Central News Agency reported.

Last week North Korea launched an intercontinental missile over Japan.

The new sanctions resolution was created to cripple the heart of the regime, from leader Kim Jong Un to the country's military and key ministries, in an effort to use diplomacy to halt the country's accelerating nuclear weapons program.
