Champions League: Stand-in Man United skipper Pogba limps off

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season but still qualified for the Champions League thanks to their Europa League success.

No wonder United manager Jose Mourinho sounded a note of caution when Basel was drawn as a group-stage opponent in this season's Champions League.

Pogba is now certain to miss to miss United's Super Sunday clash against Everton after pulling up with a hamstring strain just 18 minutes into the game.

As Man United returned to the UEFA Champions League after an absence of nearly two years, Pogba captained the side in his debut for the club in Europe's elite competition.

Back to back 1-1 draws against Lugano and Sion were followed up on Saturday with a 2-1 home defeat to basement dwellers Lausanne Sport.

It has been a tough start for rookie coach Raphael Wicky, who pits his wits against Mourinho in just his ninth senior competitive game.

Rooney, who is United's all-time top goal scorer, re-joined his boyhood club this summer following a thirteen year absence. Juventus, because they were champions three months in advance, could play with the second team and arrive fresh for the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final'. It wasn't a header, but Fellaini did provide the low cross for it. Rashford has now scored in his first appearance in the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup, League Cup and for England.

So will Romero be in goal this season as well?

Mourinho said: "He's (Jones) playing well for us".

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was named in Manchester United's Champions League squad but its doubtful whether he will play as he is recovering from an ongoing injury.

It's a massive blow to United's chances in all competitions this season.

"When we stop playing seriously, stop playing as a team, I don't like it".

Of the Group A opener against Basle, Mourinho said: 'Being back in the Champions League is going back to the natural habitat.
