Bette Midler 'Fine' After Fall During 'Hello, Dolly!' Performance On Broadway

It appears the actress fell due to a set malfunction

Dolly Levi's promise "to raise the roof" and "carry on" during the rousing finish of Jerry Herman's life-affirming anthem "Before the Parade Passes By" held special meaning for Tony victor Bette Midler during tonight's performance of Hello, Dolly!

It happened just before intermission.

But always the stage professional, the 71-year-old continued the show and tweeted to let fans know she was fine. "Stagehands rushed out to help her, and after a quick 15 minute break, the 'Divine Miss M" was back on stage and picking up where she left off.

"You may hear I was in a little accident on stage tonight; two set pieces collided".

"It was the end of the act and she went to step off a step, but there was a malfunction in the scenery", said audience member Rachel Giaccobe. The show curtain was brought down, and stage management announced that the performance was pausing due to technical difficulties.

The Tony Award-winning actress was revealed to have been cast in the title role of Dolly Gallagher Levi in March, with opening night occurring on April 20 at the Shubert Theatre.

That was when the audience said Midler took a tumble right before their eyes.
