Bears, Packers lock arms on each sideline during anthem
Some said they thought the various anthem displays, including kneeling, were disrespectful. On the first play of the game, quarterback Mike Glennon was strip-sacked deep in his own territory.
The Packers say players, coaches and staff will link arms during the national anthem before Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bears - and the team is hoping fans will do the same.
The NFL controversy is impacting the Packers vs. Bears game tomorrow at Lambeau Field. "Join us this Thursday by locking arms with whoever you're with, stranger or loved one, wherever you are - intertwined and included - in this moment of unification". We believe that in diversity there can be UNI-versity.
More players began protesting during the national anthem last weekend after President Donald Trump urged NFL owners to fire any players who protested.
The statement also pointed out that the demonstration will show that the team's personnel all want "freedom, equality, tolerance, understanding and justice for those who have been unjustly treated, discriminated against or otherwise treated unfairly".
Aaron Rodgers took to instagram earlier this week to share a photo from Week 3 which shows Packers players standing with their arms locked during the national anthem.
It appears most fans, however, did not participate.
"This is about unity and love and growing together as a society and starting a conversation around something that may be a little bit uncomfortable for people", he added. "To me there's a lot of things that are being said, but more importantly I think it's a time to listen. In terms of what others do, I'll leave it up to them", Walker said.
