Apple Watch Series 3 has LTE problems: How to cancel your preorder

"(Oh yeah! My smartwatch has LTE!) The red dot, then, is supposed to communicate to the outside world that you have an LTE-equipped Watch". The new Apple Watch, which costs at least $399 for versions with a cellular connection, opened for preorders last Friday and will begin reaching customers September 22.

This problem is certainly a big one for Apple, given that LTE capability was the key selling point of this device.

Reviews of the Apple Watch Series 3 - which includes Global Positioning System and optional cellular connectivity for placing phone calls on the go - are out. Apple explained to Goode this is because the watch might be auto-connecting to Wi-Fi networks and a fix is in the works. If you use Global Positioning System on your new Apple Watch or the headline feature - making calls - the battery takes a real hit. The Watch has a tendency to connect to unknown WiFi networks instead of connecting to cellular. "We are investigating a fix for a future software release". Outside of the potential connectivity problems, new Apple Watch buyers will still have to deal with the extra cost of adding the device to a data plan and the inevitable hit LTE connectivity has on battery life. But the LTE support is more or less what Apple is using to sell the $400 wearable in the first place, as it ostensibly gives users the ability to make calls, stream music, and generally use the device in a more self-reliant manner. The Apple Watch 3 arrives in stores on Friday. "The cellular version is a luxury that most people probably will not need", Times reviewer Brian Chen wrote. Apple is using the dot to distinguish the LTE watch models.

I have reached out to Apple asking for more information about the update and a possible fix as well as troubleshooting steps users can take once the watch is released. Cellular connections can also be used to use apps when the Watch is untethered from an iPhone.
