AIADMK sacks Sasikala as interim general secretary

Kondhane Dam Project Cost escalated 5 times after work order issued says Maharashtra ACB

The resolution further said that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, E. Palanisamy and his deputy, O. Panneerselvam, shall retrieve the party and its symbol.

However, the real powers would be vested with OPS and EPS, who will act as chief coordinator and assistant chief coordinator, respectively.

DMK leaders feel that there is no scope for any negotiated settlement between Dhinakaran faction and that of the Chief Minister after the latter's move to oust AIADMK general secretary Sasikala from her post.

Citing the resolution that states that the party members can not visualise anybody else as General Secretary other than the late Jayalalithaa, he wondered whether the same logic would also apply to the Chief Minister's post?

Party officials said the power to admit or dismiss a member rests with the party General Secretary.

Sasikala is lodged at the central jail at Parappana Agrahara since February after the Supreme Court convicted her and two others in disproportionate assets case.

In its first meet after the Palaniswami and Panneerselvam factions merged last month, AIADMK (formally AIADMK, Amma-Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) resolved to venerate the late Jayalalithaa as the "eternal party general secretary".

The new method of electing the coordinator and the co-cordinator has apparently been implemented in the light of the controversy that arose over the appointment of V.K. Sasikala as interim general secretary.

"Accordingly, bylaw no.43 is being amended".

Twenty-two rules out of a total of 46 have been changed through a resolution adopted at the general council.

A combative Dhinakaran sought to play down the decision to annul the appointment of his aunt, indicating that the court could have a final say on the matter. With the warring factions, led by former CM O Panneerselvam and current CM, E Palaniswami, burying the hatchet to remove all traces of influence of Sasikala's supporters, the party can aspire to achieve a spell of stability. The AIADMK has 134 MLAs in the 233-member House-a seat is lying vacant after the death of Jayalalithaa. Only the party general secretary, or in her absence the deputy general secretary appointed by her, had the authority to convene the general council, he said.

Dhinakaran told reporters in Madurai that Sasikala alone had the right to convene the general council meeting and dared the camp led by Palaniswami to dissolve the assembly and face elections if the party was with them as they claim.
