Trump says United States is 'locked and loaded' amid North Korea threat

The United States is ready with "military solutions" for the North Korea threat, President Donald Trump said Friday morning, promising they are "locked and loaded".

In a tweet, Trump said, "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely".

On Thursday afternoon, Trump said that his off-the-cuff warning on Tuesday that North Korea would face "fire and fury like the world has never seen" if it kept threatening the USA "wasn't tough enough".

On Thursday, Trump told reporters: " Let's see what he does with Guam".

Earlier, media reports suggested that the Pentagon had prepared a contingency plan to launch a preemptive strike against North Korea, which may involve United States fighters on Guam.

Earlier this week, Trump reacted to reports that North Korea had produced a compact nuclear warhead and warned the country they "will be met with fire and fury" if they carry out an attack.

"The DPRK must choose to stop isolating itself and stand down its pursuit of nuclear weapons", Mattis said, referring to North Korea.

He continued: "The people of this country should be very comfortable".

This most recent crisis was sparked, in part, by the August 5 unanimous vote in the United Nations Security Council to impose new sanctions on the Kim regime in response to its nuclear and missile tests.

Trump's comments followed a North Korean claim over state television that it was preparing to fire four missiles towards the USA strategic island Guam.

"China should also make clear that if North Korea launches missiles that threaten US soil first and the USA retaliates, China will stay neutral", the Global Times, which is widely read but does not represent government policy, said in an editorial.

The United States has recently intensified training flights of B-1B bombers stationed at the Andersen air base in Guam after tensions rised over North Korean increased missile tests.

China, North Korea's most important ally and trading partner, has reiterated calls for calm during the current crisis.
