The depression is forecast to strengthen to Tropical Storm Gert in the near future.
A low pressure area located about 150 miles northeast of the Turks and Caicos Islands Saturday morning has become a little better defined and the shower activity has increased somewhat since Friday.
Tropical Depression Eight has formed northeast of the Bahamas. The forecast track will bring it in between Bermuda and Cape Hatteras, not making landfall anywhere. The system is expected to head north along the coast before peeling off into the Atlantic early next week.
Seas will also be churned up across most of the East Coast early this week.
At the moment, it appears this alleyway will set up far enough east that the US would avoid any direct impacts, but increased surf along the East Coast is possible.
Tropical Depression Eight will take the alleyway in between those large-scale weather systems.
"Elsewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, the system that attempted to brew just east of Florida late last week lost its chance to develop", AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said. However, the air that the system is running into will be dry, which might prevent it from organizing.
