Sharp Aquos S2: Essential Phone Front + Rumored iPhone 8 Back

Sharp Aquos S2 full specs revealed ahead of launch

This phone features a bezel-less display with 84.95% screen-to-body ratio. It also has a pair of cameras on its back lined up vertically, and a set of odd colors in casings to choose from. However, the corners of the Sharp phone are not rounded but cut off.

These phones are a little below the flagship tier - both are undoubtedly midrange phones. It's basically the same thing - except for the bottom, which uses a different solution altogether. The other one is even more famous, as we see it pop up in rumors and reports on a daily basis: the iPhone 8. The bottom surface of the phone comes with a USB Type-C port flanked by speaker grilles. The idea is to make it so you have more display space for watching videos and playing games without lugging around a giant device.

We'll make no claims for total accuracy, but we've been watching the Android industry for a while, and as far as we're concerned, Japanese electronics giants Sharp have legitimate claims of starting the bezel-less trend. It's only the Mi MIX phone with such a small bezel that it ended up being too fragile that meets the Sharp device's closeness to the edge.

That phone, coming from Essential, a startup founded by the co-creator of Android, was the first device to debut with this kind of design. Below that is a dual-LED flash. The vertical rear-side dual camera lenses are still positioned exactly the top left corner on the rear panel and one front-facing camera is fixed on the top middle portion of the front panel. Actually let's try putting it in the camera array between the cameras - there we go.

In terms of design, the Sharp Aquos S2 sports a metal body design with 3D glass on the back and curved metal edges, meaning that the device comes with a relatively premium build quality. The top end with Limited edition with Snapdragon 660, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage is priced at 3499 Yuan.

For optics, the Sharp Aquos S2 is equipped with a 12-megapixel and 8-megapixel cameras on the back.

Sharp Aquos S2 has only been released in China where prices for the handset start at $370.
