Police helicopter crashes near violent white supremacist rally

Emergency crews are on the scene of a deadly helicopter crash in Albemarle County.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Police say only two people were on board, and police are not saying who owned the craft.

A statement released by Virginia State Police reads: 'Shortly before 5pm today (August 12), a helicopter crashed into a wooded area near a residence on Old Farm Road.

State and local police were responding to a deadly three-car crash at a white nationalist rally earlier this afternoon.

The helicopter crashed near Old Farm Road in Albemarle County, which is just outside the city.

Neighbors said the helicopter hovered low over houses before going into nearby woods. Images from the scene showed part of an aircraft in a tree.

The state chopper went down near the Birdwood Golf Course, the Daily Progress newspaper reported.
