People used to Google 'Pochettino' - Spurs boss responds to Rose

Danny Rose won’t have impressed other clubs with “ridiculous” interview says Gary Neville

Pundit Martin Keown has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Christian Eriksen - not Harry Kane or Dele Alli - is Tottenham Hotspur's key player heading into the new Premier League season.

Danny Rose has cast doubt over his future after conducting a controversial newspaper interview this week but the defender isn't available for selection anyway as he works his way back to full fitness from a knee injury so Ben Davies will start on the left. "I forgive him and now we move on".

"But you know the problem". It's in the past.

"My words were not meant to offend and for that I would like to apologise to the chairman, manager, my team-mates and the fans".

"Sometime as a player you are frustrated for different reasons". It is not a big issue and it is time to move on.

If Spurs want to continue on their path to victory in both the Premier League and on the European stage then this season is crucial, they must still at least finish in the top four, get out of the Champions League group stage and aim to win one of the domestic cups.

"Over the last five years Tottenham have always signed players and spent money at the end of the window", he said.

"I don't understand why it is now an issue".

"Everybody was praising the talent of this squad, the understanding between players, young players".

"I was telling the players that we can not make excuses, so we have to be ready and try to win the games and that's it".

"We will sign like every season at the end, maybe on the last day". We need some new energy and strengthen our squad.

Tottenham remain without Rose due to a knee problem for the trip to St James' Park, while Erik Lamela (hip) and Georges-Kevin N'Koudou (foot) are the only other absentees.

However, Benitez is not convinced Mauricio Pochettino's team will be distracted. Pochettino has helped to bring the relative success that has changed this situation at the club, for now.

"Also, when I first arrived here, people wanted to know, 'who is Mauricio Pochettino?' too".

Under the Argentinian manager, we have seen the rise of the two-time Golden Boot victor Harry Kane to an England and Premier League goal machine. We needed to bring some players in some positions to have competition.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the ex-Southampton boss added: "It is clear that Tottenham over the last few years have a very clear philosophy".
