PDP convention: We cannot afford another mistake —Mark

Makarfi disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the 75th National Executive Committee meeting of the PDP held on Friday at the party national Secretariat in Abuja.

Mark, in a statement on Thursday ahead of the convention fixed for Saturday, said that the party must ensure a hitch-free convention that would further strengthen its base.

The decision is part of the party's efforts to resolve leadership issues in the states, especially in Ogun State where two factions have laid claim to the control of the party.

"As leaders, we must read the times and take responsibility. Such persons should not remain in office as members of the caretaker committee for more than three months", he said.

The Meeting was well attended and presided over by the National Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, CON, and has the former Senate President, Senator David Mark, GCON, former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen.

Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta and the chairman of the convention's planning committee, said Nigeria can now testify that PDP is the true democratic party they deserve.

The governor, who spoke yesterday during the inspection of the Eagles Square venue of the event in Abuja, assured that everything needed for its success had been perfected.

"A collective leadership and partnership, resolved to do things right is all that we need to build the strength to recapture power", he said.

"We must root out the past mistakes and make the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people the centrepiece of our party's democratic agenda. We know Nigerians are missing us and we would always carry them along when we return in 2019".

"Zoning of Presidency and Chairmanship of the Party".

According to the lawmaker, this is a new era for the country's political journey.

"Let all Presidential aspirants from the 19 states of the North be subjected to one Primary, whereas, all National Chairmanship candidates from the 17 States of the South be subjected also to one Primary to contest together, so as to produce the best candidate, to practicalize democracy".

Mark, who had earlier resisted the wave of defection t the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) stated that he would be "the last man standing in the PDP". We are leaving no stone unturned in doing that.
