Now 544 robots will take on terrorists in Kashmir

"I will specifically praise the Jammu & Kashmir police for working hard (towards eliminating terrorists)", he said. As per media reports, around 544 robots have been approved to be deployed in the Kashmir Valley.

Backed by large sections of the population, in Indian Kashmir there are several separatist groups seeking independence of that region or its annexation to Pakistan.

Such robotic weapons will help security forces in counter-insurgency as well as counter-terror operations. "These robotic surveillance platforms can be extensively used by the RR forces.for gathering real-time input prior to manual insertion", an army note stated.

According to the report, these "lightweight and rugged" robots will comprise many surveillance cameras and transmission systems with a 200 metre-range. These robots would be capable of delivering ammunition at intended locations.

The defence ministry's approval has been granted under the "Make" category of acquisition in the Defence Procurement Procedure 2016, which states that only Indian vendors are eligible for the products.

At least two to three terrorists are suspected to have been trapped in the area.

At present the forces operating in that restive territory, the only India's state with a Muslim majority, are using a remotely operated vehicle, Daksh, for handling improvised explosive devices.
