No, really. To celebrate their new show Disjointed-a multi-camera sitcom that tells the story of a woman (played by Kathy Bates) who opens her own marijuana dispensary-the cord-cutting overlord is releasing 12 strains of weed based on a selection of their original series.
Netflix didn't profit from the sale, unless you count enhanced brand recognition with the 420 crowd, and the limited sale was intended merely for promotional purposes.
We've seen some weird promotions before, but we can safely say this one hits a new high.
"Each strain was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, created to complement each title based on their tone", Netflix wrote in a press release. "For example, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies will be more sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate".
"Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later gave rise to the Camp Firewood strain, 'a very chill indica.' Bojack Horseman can be viewed while partaking in Prickly Muffin: 'When you smoke this, it gets a little easier".
The collection was inspired by Netflix's latest, Disjointed, which is set in a marijuana dispensary.
With a new line of weed strains based on Netflix's most popular shows, Netflix & Chill has a whole new 420-friendly connotation.
