McMaster: US no closer to war with N. Korea in past week

Recent missile tests have put worldwide attention on North Korea, a country vying to be the world's next nuclear power.

Mr Rudd said Mr Trump was unique to past United States presidents dating back to 1993 who have dealt with the North Korean regime because he sees a virtue in his own strategic unpredictability.

"Well over a hundred thousand people died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki from what were small atomic bombs", Mr Corbyn said. "Our government must press for measured responses to bring the temperature down".

Trump also reiterated their mutual commitment to denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, it added.

Britain, America's top European ally, could formally refuse Donald Trump's call for help in waging war against North Korea, so long as Kim Jong-un does not strike Hawaii or the United States mainland.

"Our government must not drag our country into any military action over the Korea crisis, including joint exercises".

According to The Washington Post, Mattis told a pool of reporters Wednesday that "of course there's a military option" in place to address North Korea, but "we want to use diplomacy".

Pyongyang responded by saying it is "carefully examining" a plan to strike the US Pacific territory of Guam with missiles, claiming preparations for the strike could be ready in days. "Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!"

"President Trump and President Xi agreed North Korea must stop its provocative and escalatory behavior".

After Trump vowed on Tuesday to treat North Korean threats of hostility with "fire and fury like the world has never seen", the Kim regime announced that it is planning to launch four intermediate-range ballistic missiles into the Pacific Ocean near Guam, a USA territory.
