Major League Baseball notes: Miguel Cabrera suspended seven games

Unfortunately for Romine, his defense against a possible suspension could fall apart after Major League Baseball sees him punching Miguel Cabrera after he gets back on his feet after the brawl started.

Cabrera probably believed the pitch was thrown at him intentionally because the Tigers plunked Yankees star Gary Sanchez earlier in the game. He was suspended seven games for inciting the brawl and fighting. Cabrera barked at Romine and seconds later the two were on the ground with a mass of bodies around them.

It started in the sixth when Detroit's Miguel Cabrera shoved and punched NY catcher Austin Romine after a pitch from Tommy Kahnle sailed behind him.

Besides Cabrera and possibly Romine, Yankees hot-hitting All-Star Gary Sanchez could be in line for a suspension after taking several shots at Tigers players during the fight.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi, bench coach/acting manager Rob Thomson, outfielder Brett Gardner and Kahnle were all fined, as was Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias. The latter two players were fined for entering the field while being on the disabled list.

The suspensions are set to begin with immediate effect, but if appeals are filed the bans will begin whenever the appeals are settled. Later, Sanchez delivered another punch to Nick Castellanos, who was already immobilized. It's also pretty remarkable that neither Dellin Betances or David Robertson were penalized in any way, considering they also hit batters after being warned-and Dellin hit a guy in the hit!

The final chapter of the saga was in the eighth inning when Wilson nailed Yankees third baseman Todd Frazier in the thigh with a pitch. "I know they need me so it's not a good feeling". It's too bad Michael Fulmer didn't get hit with anything, since it's his fault all this happened in the first place. It was Romine's first career ejection and Cabrera's ninth. Amazingly, Sanchez was not ejected for those sucker punches - but that only means he should face an even bigger suspension than he could have.

"There was a lot of people going after me over there and I got a suspension", Cabrera said in Chicago.

Benches would clear two more times before the game ended with the Tigers winning, 10-6.

Warnings had been issued before Wilson hit Frazier, so the umpire ejected him immediately. "I think Gary Sanchez could be badly remembered for this for a long time".

The Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees had a game that will most likely go down in the history books.
