LG V30 Hands-On First Look: What May Be A Fantastic Android Flagship

The display is still not curved, as LG believes that curved screens are more prone to shattering and are tiresome to handle, but the glass covering the display has been nicely curved to the sides, creating a sleeker profile for the V30 as a whole.

LG said the Cine Video mode also helps people to shoot quality video, with users having the option to adjust the effects and zoom at a professional level. Think of it as the successor to both last year's V20 and the G6 combined, with a 18:9 ratio OLED display that stretches nearly the entire length of the phone. From day one, the focus has always been on bringing the best multimedia features while offering up a durable package with all the high-end specs that power users are craving. LG boasts this is the first smartphone to feature an f/1.6 aperture, which should make it better in low light conditions. It looks striking with its 18:9 FullVision display that occupies nearly the whole of the front leaving very thin bezels at the top and bottom. The display has a resolution of QHD+ that takes it to 2880x1440p and making a pixel density of 538ppi. The screen is a vibrant and crisp OLED panel protected with the Gorilla Glass 5 layer.

Moving around to the front, we find a 6” P-OLED screen that covers 82% of the front.

LG is yet to announce the price of the V30. The secondary camera at the rear is a 13MP sensor with a 120-degree wide-angle lens, EIS and f/1.9 aperture.

Early teasers told us that it will have the brightest aperture on a mobile phone – f/1.6! - but now we can tell you that the wide-angle camera is similarly impressive. Paired with the glass Crystal Clear Lens which delivers more accurate colours and clearer images than a plastic lens, the V30 is the most capable image capturing device in a smartphone. You're still getting a regular focal length smartphone camera that tags in a super-wide lens. LG added the device's "Floating Bar" can also be customized with up to five most-used apps. The Daydream compatible screen also benefits from Mobile HDR10. Inside you've got the Snapdragon 835 processor and 4 GB of RAM, pretty much the standard for a flagship phone this year. Storage options include a choice between 64GB or 128GB version, both of which will be supplemented with a microSD card slot that can accommodate up to 2TB.

Talking about software, the LG V30 will come with Android 7.1.2 preinstalled and will get Oreo update in future.

The LG V30? Well, the South Korean firm clearly feels it has a potential foothold in the western smartphone market, and will be giving the privilege of being able to buy the LG V30 later in the year. The device is powered by a 3300mAh battery with support for wireless charging.

The 3.5mm headphone socket remains in place, with a Quad DAC to boost the audio performance and in some regions, a pairing with B&O will see you provided with a set of B&O headphones in the box. The Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC is developed in partnership with ESS Technology based in California. The phone is expected to come out in four color variants: Black, White, Purple and Blue/Teal.

LG first introduced the V series in 2015, starting with the LG V10.
