Jurgen Klopp: 'Liverpool in good shape ahead of new campaign'

Southampton defender Jan Bednarek

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is satisfied with his current defensive options and believes there are few centre backs in the transfer market who could improve his current squad ahead of the Premier League season.

Liverpool are unbeaten in pre-season, aside from losing on penalties in the Audi Cup against Atletico Madrid, and have looked sharp with some impressive performances against Crystal Palace and Leicester in the Asia Trophy in Hong Kong, while wins over Bayern Munich, Hertha Berlin and Athletic Bilbao have also been well received.

So even if Klopp claims publicly he is happy with his squad, and had turned to the Wenger songbook to project his message, Edwards and the club's owners (Fenway Sports Group) should be blamed if Liverpool run into injury trouble in the first half of this season and see their ambitions snuffed out for another year as a result.

Jamie Carragher says Liverpool don't need the money for Philippe Coutinho and he expects him to stay at Anfield for another season.

The Reds have finished outside the top four in three of the last four seasons and are offered at 53/25 (3.12) to do so once more.

"Liverpool look really unsafe on the counter".

'Last year against the top six they were excellent and in pre-season they were strong.

It certainly will not have been Klopp's intentions to be in this position so close to the opening weekend, as there has been only one significant addition to the first team - Mohamed Salah - as well as Andy Robertson and Dominic Solanke - all of which have impressed in pre-season. The Reds can not afford to lose the Brazilian at any price so close to the start of the season, as his role in the team is simply priceless.

Liverpool were hoping to add Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton but withdrew their interest in the Dutch centre back after Saints accused them of making an illegal approach.

Lampard picked a top four without Liverpool but admitted: "I love Liverpool, I love watching them, I love Klopp, his personality and the way they play..."

"Adam Lallana's injury is a huge blow because he was a player in great form and confidence", said Gerrard.
