Coutinho Hands In Transfer Request

The Brazil global is a priority target for the Catalan giants, who view him as a replacement for Neymar and wishes to move.

Philippe Coutinho has handed in a transfer request at Liverpool to force a move to Barcelona. The request was turned down.

Barca have plenty of money to spend, having sold Coutinho's compatriot Neymar to Paris St Germain for a world-record £200.6m last week.

Liverpool is not a club that needs to sell.

"He's a doubt for Tuesday unfortunately", the the Liverpool boss said during his press conference on Friday. "And that is the way it will go".

Liverpool initially insisted that was not the case, but it is understood the player did send an email.

Also on Friday, a statement released to Sky Sports News, which was said to be from one of Coutinho's close family members, was read out on the channel. That's how life is.

"It's not about this, Phil is not available for us, that's the biggest issue that he's not available to play". If you're not happy, you will not be happy just because I say 'be happy'.

According to Sky Sports, Coutinho is desperate to seal a move to Barcelona this summer and is exhausted of the Reds playing "hardball" over the move.

Liverpool will be hoping to build on the progress they've shown under the leadership of Klopp next term after he helped them qualify for the Champions League on the final day of the 2016/17 season.

But without their talisman, Liverpool were never the same, and within a year manager Brendan Rodgers was gone.

Trying to land a comparable replacement for Coutinho, last season's top scorer at the club with 14 goals, is likely to be even harder.
