Can the Twins top the Tigers again? MLB Predictions 8/12/17

Twins Extend Win Streak To Six Games

Kyle Gibson didn't last long for the Twins, allowing three runs in 4.2 innings, but his bullpen picked him up with 4.1 innings of work and one run allowed. Justin Upton showed off some of that power Saturday with a walk-off two-run homer to give the Tigers a 12-11 win over the Twins.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first on Mahtook's second homer in as many days.

YANKEES 5, RED SOX 4: At New York, Aaron Hicks awoke a dormant offense with a two-run homer that sparked a five-run eighth inning, then threw out a runner at third in the ninth inning to help Aroldis Chapman get out of trouble and helped New York stop Boston's winning streak at eight.

Shane Greene (3-2) escaped a bases-loaded jam when he struck out Miguel Sano on a slider. Mikie Mahtook homered in defeat.

Berrios wasn't particularly sharp in his last outing but still managed to earn the win despite allowing five runs and six hits in five innings against Texas.

Mauer hit a three-run double with one out in the third to cut into a 5-0 Detroit lead and Eddie Rosario tied the score by hitting his 16th home run one out later. Detroit said he is day to day.

NOTES: Tigers 3B Nicholas Castellanos will begin taking fly balls in right field to see if that's a viable option for 2018, manager Brad Ausmus said. Castellanos has struggled badly at third base, and the Tigers recently acquired highly regarded third-base prospect Jeimer Candelario in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.

I think Minnesota has an edge on hill and the team really has to win after Saturday's bad loss...

RHP Ervin Santana (12-7) is to start today's series finale for the Twins. Detroit (52-63) dropped 11 games under.500 with Friday's setback and has lost six of its last seven while allowing an average of seven runs in those losses.

CARDINALS 6, BRAVES 5: Randal Grichuk and Paul DeJong homered, and host St. Louis stretched its winning streak to eight games.

MARLINS 6, ROCKIES 3: At Miami, Giancarlo Stanton hit his Major League-leading 40th home run for Miami.
