A North Carolina couple was charged after a shooting at a Nelson County home Tuesday, and authorities have yet to find them, state police said. This was one day after the sheriff's office was alerted to an abandoned Chevrolet Cobalt found parked in the eastern part of the county. The auto was registered to an elderly North Carolina man who had been reported missing to Burlington, N.C. police.
Monday, Burlington police received a call that Sean D. Castorina, 42, and Penny M. Dawson, 40, of Burlington.were missing and had not been seen since August 18.
Nelson County deputies were called at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday about a shooting victim at a home in the count.
An adult female was found suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. She is now being treated at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, Va., for serious injuries. The pickup truck has a North Carolina license plate, DHN 5418, affixed to the bumper.
Castorina and Dawson are considered armed and risky. Castorina does have family in Norfolk, Va. It's also not clear how, or even if, Simpson knows the two fugitives or how they might be connected, but Castorina and Dawson are wanted for questioning in the man's disappearance. Burlington, N.C. Police were also looking for Castorina and Dawson, who had been reported missing. According to the Burlington, N.C. Police Department's press release, "Mr. Simpson has no history of dementia or other cognitive impairments". Residents are advised to not approach the vehicle as the person of interest may be armed and risky.
