Boston 'Free Speech Rally' Is on, With Conditions

The event will be limited to noon to 2 p.m. instead of the five-hour window organizers had requested.

Medlar has said his group was not involved in Charlottesville - though some of the listed speakers were there - and that the Boston rally is meant to promote free speech, not white supremacy.

Event organizers said they will call for unity and condemn white supremacy.

An organizer behind a controversial free speech rally planned for Saturday on the Common announced Wednesday afternoon that the group has obtained a permit from the city.

Medlar said the speakers pulled out in all of the "panic and confusion" and "high emotions" following the events in Charlottesville. Then, she says, Boston Common filled with people protesting President Trump's "violent words" against women and ethnic minorities.

He was not certain how many members would go, but said he was confident they would be there.

The city has granted a permit with conditions that will also apply to counter protesters. Organizers for the counter protest and march expect between 6,000 and 10,000 people. "The fringes on the left and right do not respect free speech".

"What's the need to have this type of free speech rally this weekend".

National Director of the KKK Thomas Robb told the Boston Herald that members from the Western Massachusetts are planning to attend the rally on Saturday, and he believes members from the Greater Boston area will also attend. "If they do show up, we will separate them from us". We don't want anyone bringing weapons.

According to police, officers will be focusing on keeping the differing sides apart from each other. "Backpacks will be looked at", Evans said.

Congressman Joe Kennedy held an anti-hate meeting in Newton on Thursday morning in response to both the rally in Boston that will be taking place this weekend, as well as the rally that was held in Virginia.

Evans says police will be monitoring social media as well to get a sense of how big the crowds could be.

Kennedy said, "Our country is strong because of its diversity. because of you. you are not weak. and you are not wrong. you are seen. you are heard. you count. this is your country". "I can tell the mayor is going to make sure we are is a common political tactic", McInnes said.
