Xiaomi Mi 5X smartphone with MIUI 9 launched in China

Xiaomi has been teasing MIUI 9 for a couple weeks now with hints and previews, so it is nice to finally get a look at the release version.

The company also launched its new Xiaomi Mi 5X smartphone for 1,499 RMB and a limited edition Mi 6 Mercury Silver smartphone for RMB 3,999.

The list of devices that are getting the MIUI 9 update can be found on this list. Xiaomi started the event by discussing the MIUI numbers.

The Mi AI speaker costs 299 yuan ($44) less than the $349 for Apple's HomePod and $179.99 for the Amazon Echo.

Xiaomi's latest Mi 5X smartphone comes packed with a 5.5-inch display with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution. The former features a host of improvements such as Image Search, faster processing via dynamic resource allocation, and an all-new file system. There's also a new universal image search that lets you find images of a particular person or photos taken at a specific location. For example, if a friend sends you an SMS with a street address, you will be able to launch the navigation app straight from the messaging screen, saving valuable time. "Stay tuned for Global MIUI 9 rollout". The latest OS also brings three new themes, No Boundary, Colour Fantasy, and, Cool Black. If you only use one app or a few particular apps, the most active one will be prioritised by the system to allow smooth and seamless experience. Along with the smartphone, the company also announced the next iteration of its popular ROM, MIUI 9.

The key new features in MIUI 9 focus on smart features. In MIUI, an in-built smart assistant shall be accessible simply by swiping right, just like in stock Android and iOS's Spotlight search. Once it is available globally, we would come to know its accuracy.

On the software side, the Android-powered Mi 5X runs Xiaomi's new MIUI 9 users interface.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 will be available on Flipkart and Mi.com on Wednesday from 12pm. However, the Mi 1/1S and Mi 2A will get it as well.

There are many optimizations and various other features in MIUI including split screen feature, smart functionality, shortcuts on the lock screen and much more. The company will recruit the users first.
