Imperial Metals says numerous roads used to access the site have been closed and if critical supplies such as fuel are no longer available, the mine may suspend operations altogether.

"It's hard, it's rough", she said.

The area burning was about 10 miles south of Oroville, where spillways in the nation's tallest dam began crumbling from heavy rains this winter and led to temporary evacuation orders for 200,000 residents downstream.

The town of Williams Lake in British Columbia's Cariboo region was put on evacuation alert Tuesday as wildfires burned across the heart of the Western Canadian province, Canada's public broadcaster CBC reported.

More than 200 large wildfires fueled by dry grass have forced thousands of residents to flee in the USA and Canada. Some residents were allowed back to the area to see what was left of their homes and were overcome by emotion.

Turner said the agency has been in regular contact with its counterpart in Alberta and has also closely studied reports that were written after the Fort McMurray fire to make sure applying lessons that were learned.
