Brides panic as Alfred Angelo stores close across the country

Alfred Angelo Bridal, which has 60 stores and 1,400 authorized retailers across the United States, suddenly shuttered without warning as it entered Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Neither Redmond nor the company, with headquarters in Delray Beach, Florida, responded to requests for comment from ABC News.

To help those who might not get their dresses, some former brides are now offering up dresses for free - and member station KPCC in Southern California is using the #dressmatchmaker hashtag to orchestrate dress exchanges.

Alfred Angelo Bridal was running 61 stores before the company abruptly announced its plan to close all the stores. "These are, I don't know, these are things that they need". Two brides needed their dresses the next day. "Out of eight adult bridesmaids, only three have dresses", Damon said in a telephone interview.

All stores and wholesalers are now closed.

"I said stop joking around, This isn't amusing", said Irma Diaz of Northampton when she heard the news.

"I want answers. I want to know if I am going to receive my dress, if I am going to receive my down payment back, or what". Right now, I'm like, 'Do I start looking for another dress? Manuela Rayner told the news station. And I'm sure they've had a lot of insane brides today calling and complaining. Additionally, the customer support Twitter handle hasn't posted any tweet after July 5.

The bridal retailer posted a message to their website saying: "We apologize for the inconvenience and hardship resulting from this event". "So I don't see any reason why they just can't give us our dresses that we already paid for", said one customer.

Choosing a wedding dress is often a months-long process, and it takes some brides even longer than that.

Her team of dress consultants pulled all client information for people who ordered the designer's dresses.

The chain's only other Louisiana store was in Shreveport.

Competitors, along with other wedding services such photographers and caterers, are extending discounts to brides who can show an Alfred Angelo receipt.

"We understand that this is an extremely stressful time for any bride regardless of the circumstances that they are dealing with", Joel Benson from Bridal and Prom Discount Warehouse told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. However, not all of them got exactly what they wanted in the first place.
