Flooding forces closure of part of Interstate 44 in Missouri

The Missouri Department of Transportation is set to close Route 141 at I-44 Sunday night at 10 pm.

I-44 remains closed east of Lebanon at Mile Marker 144 and in spots between Rolla and Waynesville west of Mile Marker 186. Drivers who need to travel across Missouri are highly encouraged to use Interstate 70 to avoid the closings on I-44.

The detour for motorists and commercial motor carriers traveling westbound on I-44 is US 63 to USA 60 to Missouri 360 to I-44. That will cause backups on USA 60, which has lane closings because of high water between Springfield and Rogersville; traffic in both directions is using the eastbound lanes because water is covering a low spot in the westbound lanes.

Westbound lanes on U.S. Route 60 between Springfield and Rogersville are closed.

Eastbound drivers should take Route 360 to Route 60 to Route 63 to I-44. This will increase the likelihood of delays on this stretch of Route 60. Rainfall totals from southwest Missouri to the St. Louis area range between 7 to 3 inches, forcing many streams, creeks and river out of their banks.

Several state roads have reopened. Crews will remove debris and then inspect for damage before opening the roads.
