In many countries of the world, there is little or no support available for people with mental health disorders. The conversations explore the importance of not staying silent when it comes mental illness.

The theme for World Health Day in 2017 is "Depression: Let's Talk" and Peoplecare wants to encouraged all enterprises and organisations in the Illawarra to offer effective mental health support services to their employees and members. If you think you have depression, seek help.

Infectious diseases, antibiotic resistant bacterium and air pollution are just some of the major health concerns the World Health Organization has helped combat through research, government programs and collaborations for almost 70 years. "People with depression can and do recover and talking to someone about how you are feeling could be the first step towards recovery".

Increased investment is also needed. Everyone pays if a person suffering from depression or another mental health illness can not work. We all can play a role in helping those suffering from depression overcome it.

"I would like to call on all Malaysians to develop a deeper understanding on the aspect of mental health, which is equally important as physical health", he said in a statement. Mental health disorders span a very wide range from simple disorders to very complex situations.

Abat shared as early as 13 years old and up to senior years, individuals can experience depression and it can be due to biological, psychological or social factors.

However, failure to do so can be costly.

This year's theme seeks to raise awareness of depression as the leading cause of ill-health and disability worldwide. The losses are incurred by households, employers and governments: for households, with absence from work affecting household income; for employers, with lower productivity of employees when at work and absence from work; and for governments, with higher health and welfare expenditures. Households lose out financially when people can not work.

With a better state of mind, these workers would be able to regain confidence and be more productive. "But generally speaking, other symptoms of depression can be attributed to mental disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, alcoholism or drug abuse, troubles with interpersonal relationships, and bullying, which often make the suicidal persons attempt to desperately escape by ending their own lives". The World Health Organisation in its new global health estimates on depression for 2015 said while over five crore Indians suffered from depression, over three crore others suffered from anxiety disorders.

Depression is a common mental illness characterized by persistent sadness and a loss of interest in activities that people normally enjoy, accompanied by an inability to carry out daily activities, for 14 days or longer.
