Indications are that neither team will take a quarterback with their top picks, but then again, quarterbacks tend to come off the board early come draft time - Jared Goff and Carson Wentz were the top two picks a year ago.
For the second straight season, the Cleveland Browns will kickoff day 2 of the NFL Draft when they announce the 33rd overall selection but who could the Browns be targeting with this pick?
Here is an in-depth look at the team's needs, offseason changes, potential best fit and the selections by NFLDraftScout.com's experts.
Brown also said that the team was looking "forward to having Brock come in and compete", and followed up on that statement at Wednesday's pre-draft news conference. SiriusXM NFL Radio has the Bears selecting Deshaun Watson. The Browns tried to improve the position in free agency, but were unsuccessful. The pick gives the team a ton of options in a very good draft, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
Joe Haden has watched the tape and arrived at an easy decision: Myles Garrett. Both were hampered by injuries. In the mock draft, McShay determined that no quarterbacks should be selected in the first round. It will be no surprise if the Browns don't take two.
Of course, it should be noted that it was just a suggestion, but the 49ers are open to trading the second overall pick. Jets GM Mike Maccagnan even bluntly told reporters recently, "If someone wants to move up in any particular round, call us up".
Along with Savage, the Texans have veteran Brandon Weeden on their roster after they traded last season's starting quarterback, Osweiler, to the Browns in March. Garrett's on-field production combined with his athletic prowess has him positioned as the top pass-rusher and top overall player in the draft.
Cam Newton was the Panthers' starter as a rookie and it took him and the team few years to mature into a playoff quarterback.
Garrett appears to be the consensus top player on most draft boards, but there's a mishmash of prospects in the next tier. There is nothing not to like about him. According to Pro Football Talk, there is still a debate going on with the Browns and whether or not they should take Garrett or quarterback Mitch Trubisky. The only way that doesn't happen is one of two reasons. In eight National Football League games, McCarron has completed 79-of-119 passes for 854 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions.
What does that mean for Myles Garrett?
Regardless of where he ends up, it's pretty clear Trubisky is going to be the top quarterback taken in the 2017 NFL Draft. "Garrett ran a freakish 4.64 40-yard dash which is astoundingly high for a 6'4", 272-pound defensive end.
Rob Rang, No. 12: Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina. In addition to making it hard to work out a second trade, the guaranteed salary leaves Cleveland with no real incentive to release the 26-year-old quarterback at this juncture.
With eleven picks the Cleveland Browns have the chance to acquire a lot of talent in this draft and build for the future. The Combine basically confirmed this pick.
All in all, adding a player like Garrett should make Haden's job easier.
Dane Brugler, No. 12: O.J. With the need for a quarterback glaring, the Browns find themselves once again trying to find their franchise signal caller. In the worst way.
