Hundreds of people marched in Englewood Friday alongside Cardinal Blase Cupich and other religious and community leaders demanding peace in the city streets.

The peace walk began around 10:30 St. Benedict the African Church on West 66th Street and South Stewart Avenue on the city's South Side. The cardinal invited individuals and families directly affected by the violence in Chicago, Archdiocesan parishioners, police officers, health professionals and fire officials. Chicago had more than 760 murders in 2016, the highest number in nearly two decades.

Preliminary data compiled by Chicago Tribune show that till April 14, a total of 865 people have been shot dead or injured this year.

"It is my honor and my duty to go forward and address some of the violence that is occurring", a man said.
